ABOUT US

Back in March of 2017, we set up The 401 Foundation with the sole purpose of empowering people and their local communities to build confidence, self esteem and improve mental health through providing small financial grants.

OUR STORY SO FAR

The 401 Foundation was set up as the legacy to the 401 Challenge where our CEO, Ben Smith, ran 401 marathons in 401 days, raising in excess of £330,000 for two anti-bullying charities.

During the challenge, he met and ran with 13,000+ people from all corners and communities of the UK. He noticed one key thing on his journey - so many mental health initiatives were struggling to stay afloat. They were finding it difficult to get off the ground or even function due to a lack of funding, awareness and sustainable support networks.

In March of 2017, Ben and a team of trustees set up a charity, the 401 Foundation, to try and find a solution to this problem.

We are happy and proud to say that through the amazing support of our donors we were able to start making a difference to local community initiatives prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, over the past few years our organisation, like many others, has had to adapt and this has meant we have had to figure out a different plan of action to help us deliver our purpose.

Our resolve and passion to support people with their mental health is stronger than ever. We have developed a 10 year strategic plan and invite you all to be a part of this journey with us. We believe it will undoubtedly help change the mental health landscape and benefit millions of people across the UK for years to come.
